What can you expect during your first
consultation with
Chris at the Acupuncture of Marin - Integrative Medical Center of Mill Valley or during a house-call
to your home or office? The initial consultation is approximately 90
minutes and involves a thorough interview of the patient’s medical history,
family history, present conditions or concerns, current medications, and
detailed questioning system-by-system. This detailed and extensive interview
process is to become acquainted with the patient and develop a rapport. Pulse
and tongue diagnosis are the two primary methods used to confirm findings from
the interview process. A diagnosis is formulated, the strategy of the treatment
outlined, followed by a recommended course of treatment. In addition, lifestyle
and dietary changes will be discussed.
This will be followed by a selection of acupoints that will be needled gently
with disposable needles. Additional therapies that might also be used depending
on their relevance include: cupping, tui na (Chinese massage), moxabustion,
acupressure, and qi-gong (energy work). Generally, the needles are left in for
approximately 20 minutes.
Upon completion of the acupuncture treatment, the patient will be prescribed
Chinese herbal remedies. These herbal formulas can be in the form of pills,
concentrated extract powder, as well as raw herbs to cook as a tea.

Just
as the lotus is a symbol of perfection and purity, so do we embody these
qualities. Just as the lotus
rises from the mud, so does our higher nature rise from the world of
conflict, confusion and chaos. The
beauty of the lotus and the beauty within us cannot be stained or
touched with imperfection. Just
as the lotus flowers graceful petals unfold layer upon layer, so does
grace within us unfold revealing layer upon layer of beauty.
